Is Parker Washington playing today? Why Jaguars WR is off to slow start in Week 12
1+ day, 5+ hour ago (202+ words) With Brian Thomas and Travis Hunter out due to injury, the Jacksonville Jaguars desperately need more out of Parker Washington. Washington has typically played a tertiary or lower role in the Jaguars' offense in recent years, but now he's got a golden opportunity to show he's capable of doing more. However, Washington isn't answering the bell in the first half of the Week 12 game against the Arizona Cardinals. Here's a closer look at what's going on. Yes, Washington is active and in the lineup but only received one target in the first half. It's shocking Washington hasn't been more involved, but then again the Jaguars' offense has struggled mightily after a hot start and Trevor Lawrence only completed three passes in total in the first half. Hopefully things turn around over the final two quarters of the game. 49ers' Kyle Shanahan…...
State quarterfinals football roundup: Mount Tahoma handles Tacoma rival Lincoln
2+ day, 2+ hour ago (1924+ words) Tumwater coach Willie Garrow needed his scout team to simulate Franklin Pierce's unique Power-T offense during practice in the week leading up to Saturday afternoon's Class 2A state tournament quarterfinal game against the Cardinals. He knew just the man to turn to. Pat Johnson, an assistant on the Tumwater coaching staff, was the offensive coordinator at Tenino under then-head coach Cary Nagel several years ago. Nagel later brought the Power-T to Trevor Hanson's Franklin Pierce squad. Needless to say, Johnson knows the offense well. "He coached our scout team all week," Garrow said. "Our kids were running (the Power-T) well by Wednesday. They actually looked like a Power-T team and executed that. (Johnson) was instrumental in helping us get a good look on scout team." Tumwater's lights-out defense took care of the rest, holding Franklin Pierce to one touchdown in a…...
Cal Poly closes season with 43-34 home win over Eastern Washington
2+ day, 8+ hour ago (346+ words) On the last day of the regular season, Cal Poly's football team shined in front of its home fans and an ESPN+ television audience, snapping a six-game losing streak. The Mustangs (4-8, 2-6 Big Sky Conference) beat Eastern Washington (5-7, 4-4 Big Sky Conference) by a score of 43-34 in the first start of the season for Anthony Grigsby Jr., the third quarterback of the season to start a game for Cal Poly. Grigsby, a redshirt junior from Stockton, handled the job well in a high-scoring affair against the Eagles, completing 21 of 37 passes for 341 yards and three touchdowns, with two interceptions, to secure the victory in his first career start. The Mustangs deployed an up-tempo offense to earn their second conference win and catch Eastern Washington off guard in key moments during the game. Scoring included a 31-yard connection between Grigsby and Logan Booher on…...
Washington Commanders to host a home game internationally in 2026
3+ day, 6+ hour ago (318+ words) The Commanders also sent an email to season ticket holders announcing a price increase. The Washington Commanders will get a ninth home game in 2026. Yes, the NFL had to come up with some sort of fair scheduling system, seeing that they went from the 16-game schedule to the whacky, unnecessary 17th game. Their answer was to rotate a ninth home game between the conferences each year. So, the AFC will get the 9th home game this 2025 season, and the NFC teams will host a 9th home game in 2026. That is, unless you are one of the teams selected (or perhaps mandated) to go overseas and play an International game. Friday, news broke that the Commanders will play an international game again in 2026. They were also declared the home team for that game, meaning local Commanders fans will miss seeing the Commanders at Northwest…...
Steelers Darnell 'Mount' Washington Steamrolling Defenders
3+ day, 10+ hour ago (322+ words) The tight end is so big that he has been dubbed "Mount Washington," in reference to the neighborhood that provides a scenic overlook of Pittsburgh. Befitting a player his size, Washington was primarily a blocking tight end in his first two seasons after being drafted in the third round in 2023 from Georgia. However, the 24-year-old has added another dimension to his game this season. Washington has become a receiving threat. Washington has 18 receptions for 219 and one touchdown for the AFC North-leading Steelers. He was targeted just 35 times in his first two seasons combined and had 26 catches for 261 yards and one TD. Yet while Washington has plenty of brute force " as evidenced by running over three defenders on a 31-yard pass play-- in last Sunday's victory over the Cincinnati Bengals " he has also shown his athletic ability by hurdling over opponents....
Steelers tight end Darnell Washington isn't your average NFL big guy and has the skills to prove it
3+ day, 21+ hour ago (899+ words) Not the hurdling. Not the stiff arm. None of it. It's all instinct, like just about everyone else out there on the field. Even if there's no one else out there " and maybe no one else in sports " quite like Washington. He laid the proof bare in the second quarter of Pittsburgh's 34-12 win over Cincinnati on Sunday, when the 6-foot-7, 311-pound Washington put his unique physical skills on display for the entire football world to see. Washington, 24, headed upfield at the snap and turned to his left. Aaron Rodgers' eyes scanned the field and settled on the massive target a few yards in front of him. Washington caught the short pass, tucked the ball into his left hand, and then proceeded to play demolition derby with the Bengals. Bengals cornerback D.J. Turner II had the last shot. Rather than try to…...
If the Washington Mystics get the No. 1 pick in the 2026 WNBA Draft, will they draft for fit or potential?
4+ day, 15+ hour ago (355+ words) When musing over how to maximize the No. 1 pick in any draft, including the WNBA Draft, it's generally frowned upon to "draft for fit," meaning picking the player with the skillset that will best elevate your team. Teams are encouraged to take the best player available regardless of redundancies. If their 9.7 percent chance hits and they win the 2026 WNBA Draft Lottery on Sunday, Nov. 23 (6:30 p.m. ET, ESPN), the Washington Mystics may walk a different path. General manager Jamila Wideman is in a unique position'one that she has created through her own success. Washington will be drafting three times in the first round of the draft for a second-consecutive year. Last year, Wideman hit on rookie All-Stars Sonia Citron and Kiki Iriafen. Georgia Amoore, Washington's third pick, missed her rookie season while rehabbing from an ACL injury. An already-established young core gives…...

1+ week, 17+ hour ago (124+ words) Pro Football Focus has released their grades for Sunday's AFC North matchup between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Cincinnati Bengals " highlighting an exceptional day for the Black and Gold offense. Here is a look at the Steelers' offensive PFF grades from Week 11 " including several key performances in the divisional win. Jaylen Warren " 91.2 Darnell Washington " 87.5 Connor Heyward " 76.2 Kenneth Gainwell " 72.5 Mason McCormick " 70.9 Zach Frazier " 66.4 DK Metcalf " 63.9 Broderick Jones " 62.7 Troy Fautanu " 61.3 Scott Miller " 60.0 This article originally appeared on Steelers Wire: Steelers' highest offensive PFF grades, Week 11: Washington breaks out...
Washington Commanders vs. Miami Dolphins: 3 first-half takeaways
1+ week, 2+ day ago (718+ words) The Washington Commanders are still searching for their first win since Oct. 5, when they knocked off the Los Angeles Chargers on the road. Since then, the Commanders have dropped five straight games to the Chicago Bears, Dallas Cowboys, Kansas City Chiefs, Seattle Seahawks, and Detroit Lions. Washington kicked off the Week 11 Sunday slate of NFL games in Madrid, Spain, and is tied 6-6 at the half to the Miami Dolphins. Once again, wide receiver Terry McLaurin has been dealing with a quad injury for the majority of the season, while quarterback Jayden Daniels suffered a gruesome elbow injury in the Commanders' loss to the Seahawks. Both players are inactive against Miami. Marcus Mariota once again gets the start in Daniels' place, and has completed 12 of 16 passing attempts for 119 passing yards, and a third of those have been caught by tight end…...
How will the Washington Nationals overhaul their bullpen?
1+ week, 2+ day ago (861+ words) The Nationals had a lot of weaknesses in 2025, but none were worse than the bullpen. They had the worst bullpen ERA in baseball at 5.59, and it was not even close. There were actually a couple of points where the unit looked alright, but as a whole, it was a dumpster fire. Major changes will be needed to make this even an average bullpen. So how will Paul Toboni rebuild this bullpen? We are going to find out soon, but let's start with some guys who will likely return. For my money, Jose A. Ferrer, Clayton Beeter, Cole Henry and PJ Poulin are likely to be back in the Nats bullpen. Beyond that, there are a ton of open spots and uncertainty. Brad Lord will be in the bullpen if he is not in the rotation as well. However, those are the…...
